From ME's Madawaska International Bridge replacement to MA's Green Line Extension to NH's award winning Mount Washington Hotel our local construction management division and inspection team has steadily grown over the past twenty-five years. WSP is currently initiating a search for a Highway Resident Engineer to oversee new, replacement, or rehabilitated infrastructure with construction values ranging from $1-$50 million. This position can be based out of Portland, Augusta or Eliot, ME and Merrimack, NH.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 11 years applicable experience, including 4 years of supervising staff.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Average proficiency with MS Word Suite.
  • Have a valid driver's license.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate of Science Degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or related field.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or related field.
  • ACI or NETTCP certifications, or ability to attain within 3-months of hiring.
  • Hands-on experience with construction management software such as Site or Field Manager, APPIA, Procore, IPD or similar systems.
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills.
  • Any combination of college education, professional licenses, certifications and experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee various work elements including excavation, backfilling, compaction, cast-in-place concrete from formwork to reinforcement, guardrail, drainage, overhead sign structures and other incidental items.
  • Manage a staff of inspectors and on-call material technicians or surveyors.
  • Daily interface with the contractor, subcontractors and project owner.
  • Chair progress meetings, and prepare minutes.
  • Review and interpret construction contract documents.
  • Oversee work for conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Review technical submittals and shop drawings for general intent and compliance.
  • Anticipate and help resolve design and construction issues.
  • Review contractor's project schedule for general information related to schedule and logic.
  • Complete daily reports, measure, calculate and track unit price quantities.
  • Lead the contractor's pay requisition development, review and approval process.
  • Evaluate potential change orders, and make recommendations.
  • Lead change order negotiations, review and prepare negotiation position with owner.
  • Monitor maintenance of traffic for compliance.
  • Take and compile photographs, for tracking of daily progress.
  • Update red-line drawings using Bluebeam.
  • Prepare and update punch lists.
  • Coordinate final inspections and prepare final pay estimate.
  • Support the finals closeout process.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Uphold workplace safety and abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
