As a Highway Principal Technical Consultant , you will leverage your expertise to provide technical guidance and consulting services, ensuring the successful execution of projects and exceeding customer expectations. This role involves serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in highway transportation design, offering advanced solutions to improve infrastructure performance and efficiency. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality results that align with Parsons’ commitment to excellence.

Requirements

Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly.
Advanced knowledge of highway transportation design principles, including roadway geometry, pavement design, traffic engineering, and environmental considerations.
Ability to analyze and interpret complex information from various sources to make informed decisions.
Strong problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making skills, with an understanding of current and future implications in transportation projects.
Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and transportation modeling software.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Advanced knowledge of industry regulations, standards, and best practices in highway transportation design.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
Proven ability to provide technical support in a demanding work environment, particularly in transportation infrastructure projects.
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
Minimum of 15+ years of experience in highway transportation design, including supervisory experience and presenting technical assessments to senior personnel.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide technical expertise as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in transportation systems, including roadway design, traffic analysis, and highway infrastructure development.
Collaborate with company leadership and Project Managers to deliver professional technical services and innovative solutions for highway transportation projects. Role includes but not limited to proposal development, solutioning, value engineering, quality control, mentoring of junior staff, etc.
Maximize customer operational performance by offering resources, technical advice, and design recommendations that enhance transportation systems.
Resolve escalated technical challenges related to highway design and construction, ensuring timely and effective solutions. Resolution may be internal to the project delivery team, or through resolution with the owner.
Stay informed of current trends, technologies, and developments in highway transportation design and engineering.
Establish and maintain professional relationships with key stakeholders, including transportation agencies, engineering teams, and project management personnel, with a focus on NYSDOT and NYSTA.
Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuous improvement in quality, service, and project delivery.
Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Leverage relationships to support talent acquisition and growing Parsons’ presence in the Albany, Syracuse and Buffalo areas.
Support office management in the Albany area, once a physical footprint is established.
Limited travel as may be appropriate.
