About The Position

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol's primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible. In addition to enforcing the state's traffic laws, state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations, re-route traffic around hazardous chemical spills, and they stand ready, should any act of terrorism occur. Join our team and play a critical role in public safety. We're Seeking dedicated Telecommunicators to support North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) operations through efficient, life-saving communication. The work location is Troop E Communications Center in Salisbury, NC (Rowan County).

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and demonstrated ability to type and work efficiently under pressure; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must meet the applicable education, employment, and training standards as required to be Department of Criminal Information (DCI) certified; must be DCI certified or become certified within 120 days of employment.
  • Qualified recommended applicant(s) must undergo and successfully pass: Criminal Background Investigation, Drug Screening Test, Psychological Test

Nice To Haves

  • Experience analyzing complex information in real-time emergency situations to determine critical elements and dispatch appropriate resources.
  • Proficiency using multi-channel radio workstations and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems in public safety settings.
  • Proficiency with public safety and administrative software including CIIS, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Receiving emergency and non-emergency requests for service from the general public, allied pubic safety agencies, highway patrol, and other local, state, and federal law enforcement personnel.
  • Receiving request through telephone, radio and computer-based communications networks.
  • Documenting and assigning these requests according to established directives, policies, and guidelines in order of priority.
  • Operating multi-channel radio workstations, telephone and various computer systems in fulfilling these responsibilities.
  • Dispatching Emergency Medical Services and additional emergency equipment as needed.
  • Articulating speech clearly and distinctly.
