About The Position

The Ohio Department of Public Safety is seeking a qualified individual to oversee all dispatching and related activities for the assigned center. This role includes supervising Highway Patrol Radio Dispatcher (HPRD) personnel in the use of the Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS), Multi-Agency Radio Communication System (MARCS) Radios, and Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD) to dispatch officers and equipment to assist the public and other agencies. Responsibilities include direct supervision of HPRD staff, preparing schedules, handling payroll functions, approving leave requests, completing performance evaluations, and administering the selection process for personnel. The position also involves providing guidance on dispatch operations, developing and implementing communication center programs, and evaluating training needs of staff. Additionally, the role requires performing quality review checks and creating statistical reports for administrative staff.

Requirements

  • 12 months experience in operation of computer aided dispatch software.
  • 12 months training or experience in Federal Communication Commission rules and regulations.
  • 6 months training or experience on Law Enforcement Automated Data System.
  • 3 months training or experience in employee training and development.
  • 3 months training or experience in public relations.
  • Or 12 months experience as Highway Patrol Radio Dispatcher, 52461.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all dispatching and related activities for assigned center.
  • Supervise Highway Patrol Radio Dispatcher (HPRD) personnel in the use of LEADS, MARCS Radios, and CAD.
  • Prepare schedules for personnel and handle payroll functions.
  • Approve leave requests and complete performance evaluations.
  • Administer the selection process by tracking applications and directing interviews.
  • Provide guidance concerning dispatch operations and administer use of LEADS.
  • Develop and implement communication center programs and policies.
  • Evaluate and identify possible training needs of staff.
  • Investigate possible Law Enforcement Automated Data System rule infractions.
  • Coordinate training of newly-hired employees through structured orientation programs.
  • Assist with administrative investigations concerning subordinate rule violations.
  • Utilize CAD system to receive and transmit radio communications.
  • Perform quality review checks and create statistical reports for administrative staff.
  • Attend Dispatcher Supervisor In-Service and assist with Quality Review Audits.
  • Prepare and provide material relating to dispatch center audits.
