About The Position

Assists with the placement of traffic control devices to properly set up a maintenance work zone. Serves as a flagger to safely direct and control traffic in maintenance work zones. Operates small equipment such as a brine sprayer, brush chipper, forklift, trailer mounted pipe washer, roller = 4 tons, snowplow, spreader, tractor with broom and tractor with mower = 10' wide; 10' batwing and a dump truck (single axle) for hauling materials and performing other related job tasks as assigned. Performs manual labor in a variety of activities to include performing work on driveways, shoulders, ditches, and drainage pipes/structures; assisting with the installation and repairing of traffic signs and pavement markings; performing a variety of vegetation management activities; repairing potholes and base surface failures of roadway. Operates powered tools, and hand tools to perform a variety of maintenance activities, in support of vegetation management activities (i.e. chain saws, weed eaters, drills, impact wrench, etc.). Removes litter, debris, and dead animals from roadway and rights-of-way and assists Supervisor with on-call for afterhours emergencies as needed. Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations; may include being available for extended working hours and/or 12-hour shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
  • Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
