A Highway Maintenance Supervisor oversees the maintenance and repair of roads, streets, alleys, sidewalks, curbs and gutters or the maintenance and repair of bridge structures, foot bridges, guard rails, jersey walls, retaining walls, steps and fences, or the maintenance of municipal grounds including parks, athletic fields and median strips. Work of this class involves supervising laborer, equipment operations, and maintenance and repair personnel. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek; some evening, weekend and holiday hours are required on a 24-hour, on-call basis. Work is performed outdoors where incumbents may be exposed to construction and grounds maintenance equipment, toxic chemicals, construction sites, traffic and inclement weather. Work requires minimal physical exertion.
