The Engineering - Intern will assist in the inspection of road and bridge construction projects, surveying, and materials testing. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Survey county roads and bridges for use in design utilizing GPS rovers and survey total station. Assist in road and bridge construction inspections, including monitoring of soil and bituminous compaction, collecting bituminous and aggregate tickets, calculating application rates, completing daily project records, and communicating project issues or concerns to the Assistant County Engineer. Complete daily communication with contractors on assigned projects. Collection and testing of aggregate material gradations and reporting results to the lead inspector. Testing concrete for air content, slump, and temperature and casting concrete cylinders for compression tests, and reporting results to the lead inspector. Delivers materials to MnDOT labs for testing. Maintains a neat and orderly work area at all times. Operates all equipment in a safe manner at all times, following all approved safety procedures. Maintains an effective working relationship with department employees. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs other work-related duties as required.
