Serco supports the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) by operating the free HERO patrol service program with the purpose of minimizing traffic congestion and improving highway safety by clearing damaged and disabled vehicles and debris from the travel and emergency lanes, and providing traffic control and scene protection at incidents. Watch Operator video in action As a HERO Operator, you can expect to: Assist motorists and perform incident management services during assigned shifts Provide clear and accurate information regarding incidents and the response required using standard protocol to communicate with TMC Operators, law enforcement, ambulance, fire department, or towing services using radio, telephone, CAD, and e-mail. Services include, but are not limited to: Clear lane blocking traffic incidents and assist other emergency and support response personnel as requested Establishing traffic control and scene protection using signs, flares, cones, flagging, flashing lights, etc. during major incidents Providing basic first aid services in accordance with standard and necessary practices until trained emergency responders arrive on the scene Changing flat tires Adding air to low tires Adding gasoline Adding water to radiators Providing battery jump starts Perform vehicle push maneuvers when able Calling for towing service or emergency service Transporting stranded motorists to a safe location off the roadway Providing cell phone service Providing drinking water to stranded motorists
