About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum age of 18 years.
• Valid Indiana driver's license and Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a safe driving record.
• Ability to meet County hiring requirements, including medical exam and drug test.
• Working knowledge of Department safety policies and OSHA guidelines.
• Ability to operate various trucks and heavy equipment safely.
• Ability to use hand and power tools effectively.
• Physical ability to perform assigned duties, including lifting over 50 pounds and working in various conditions.
• Effective communication skills with co-workers and the public.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate various trucks and related equipment for road maintenance, including dump trucks, snow plows, and backhoes.
• Haul, dump, and spread materials such as blacktop, rock, and sand for road projects.
• Maintain road safety during winter months by plowing snow and applying salt/sand.
• Regularly check trucks and equipment for proper functioning and report issues to supervisors.
• Perform road maintenance tasks such as patching holes, installing guardrails, and grading gravel roads.
• Assist with clearing fallen trees, brush, and debris from roadways.
• Perform manual labor tasks including shoveling, digging, and lifting materials.
• Conduct flagging and traffic control duties at work sites as necessary.
• Operate various hand and power tools for maintenance tasks.
• Respond to emergencies as needed, even when off-duty.
