The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is responsible for regulating the location and maintenance of junkyard businesses adjacent to the Interstate and most highways throughout our entire state. Outdoor advertising signs and Junkyards are to be in accordance with Federal and State Laws, Rules, and Regulations. If NDOT does not have an effective program for this regulation, we could be subject to the withholding of 10% of our annual federally allocated highway funds As a Right of Way (ROW) Agent in the Highway Beautification Section for NDOT, you will learn about the laws that we follow and how to uphold them. We regulate and oversee the permitting of outdoor advertising along the beautiful highways of our State by following the Highway Beautification Act of 1965. Duties will include the issuing of new advertising permits, ensuring existing permits are current and in compliance with our laws. This Agent will be the public voice of our department. Receiving new NDOT Sign/Junkyard applications. Reviewing the applications for compliance with our rules and regulations, processing applications for pre-approving or denying applications, documenting, recording, and granting of our NDOT Sign Junkyard Permits. Preparing, issuing, and processing of returned renewal/update information, keeping our records up to date and current. Communicate, educate, inform, and guide NDOT Sign Permit holders on how to stay in compliance with the Federal Highway and State of Nebraska rules and regulations. By ensuring this, Nebraska will stay a participant in the Highway Beautification Bonus Program. Electronically sort and file permit records and communications. Utilize Federal and State information sources to research and gather information to ensure our records are in compliance, correct, current, and up to date. Perform other duties as assigned.
