About the position

The Higher Ed BI Analyst position (IT Business Intelligence/Data Analyst II) within the Enterprise Data Office (EDO), provides data services such as facilitation of cross-functional data requests, administration of compliance reporting, data quality control, and uses tools such as Tableau and Microsoft Office products to design and develop data reports, conduct analysis and create dashboards and data visualizations. The role will be responsible for managing incoming data requests and help queues, including tracking, triaging, and monitoring tickets from creation through resolution. The Higher Ed BI Analyst champions the use and full potential of UNC System data by internal and external stakeholders through educational outreach such as presentations, training, the creation of 'how to' videos and guides, and advising System Office employees and constituents. Exceptional customer service and communication skills are required, as is an in-depth knowledge of data content, availability, structure, and policies. The Higher Ed BI Analyst will support the UNC Data Marts and their software development lifecycles. They will actively participate in a cross-functional team that oversees the continuous improvement of the data systems through the stages of planning, analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. Specific tasks will include documentation, validating new enhancements, and translating business requirements into technical specifications. The Higher Ed BI Analyst will create and maintain data resources such as dashboards. They will identify the data needs of stakeholders and design new deliverables to efficiently meet those needs. They will engage with System Office stakeholders as part of a data fluency initiative to increase data knowledge and use in decision making. Responsibilities will also include performing quality assurance, representing the department on various project teams, consulting on issues related to data, and providing subject matter expertise related to enterprise data collection systems. Data security is an integral responsibility, this position must take all measures necessary to ensure that data is protected as prescribed by law, System Office policies, and department standards. This position is a hybrid work arrangement and will work at least 3 days per week at the Dillon building in downtown Raleigh's Warehouse District. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate cross-functional data requests and compliance reporting.

Requirements

  • Master's degree and 1-2 years' experience; or Bachelor's degree and 2-4 years' experience; or a combination of related education and experience.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience with relational databases, data retrieval, and statistical packages (SAS and SQL preferred).
  • Experience with data visualization software (Tableau preferred).
  • Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with varied audiences.
  • Strong customer-service skills, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy.
  • Experience investigating and resolving data quality issues.
  • Ability to effectively plan and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
