The High Voltage Technician will safely operate bench test equipment to perform validations and repairs on railroad equipment including batteries, compressors, electronic, electrical, mechanical controllers, and high voltage systems while adhering to production schedules. The technician will perform repairs using manual and power tools, work on a wide range of electronic equipment, computer systems, and mechanical equipment under the supervision of a technical engineer/manager, and perform automated and manual testing on high voltage mechanical equipment. The role requires following all electronic, electrical, mechanical, and CFC safety requirements, using MS Office programs for creating reports and analysis, and using SAP to input and track completed tasks. The technician will also train and assist other technicians on shop processes and safety standards and advise technical engineers and/or shop supervisors as requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma Required.
  • Vocational/Technical school graduate preferred.
  • NFPA70E certification preferred and/or equivalent military background in electronics preferred.
  • Experience with high voltage testing/validation.
  • Experience using standard electronic test equipment like Digital Volt Meter, Oscilloscope, and Hand Tools.
  • Experience reading and interpreting Schematics.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of rolling stock maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of safety management systems and safety risk assessment.
  • Strong understanding of electronic principles, circuit design, and testing procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to established safety procedures in Technical Work Center and New Castle Facility.
  • Ability to assemble, validate, and repair equipment within the High Voltage.
  • Validation, repair, and testing on wire harness assemblies.
  • Operate test equipment to validate harness assemblies.
  • Assemble and repair electrical and mechanical systems: wiring, connectors, and contractors.
  • Perform flow testing.
  • Work in High Voltage facility.
  • Assist with building bench test equipment.
  • Work with compressed air and pneumatic tools and equipment.
  • Use precision measuring devices.
  • Operate oscilloscope, digital multimeter, megger, hi-pot, high voltage DC & AC power supplies.
  • Safe use and operation of power tools including drills, pneumatic presses, and pneumatic tools.
  • Safe use and operation of hand tools including wire crimpers, wire strippers, screwdrivers, pliers, hammers, wrenches, torque wrenches, files, and socket sets.
  • Cross train with other departments as workload demands, including work on HVAC, electromechanical, or electronics equipment.
  • Familiar with Windows operating systems.
  • Proper use of PPE while performing daily tasks.
