About The Position

The High Voltage Engineer will monitor, troubleshoot, and improve high voltage equipment to improve mean time between failures, ensuring the operational needs of the plant are met, while complying with the changing standards and best practices. Additionally, they will work on capital replacement projects to address obsolescence. During a typical day they will work with the IEA/HV Specialist, I&E Engineers and IEA Maintenance Supervisor. The candidate is responsible for safe and efficient operation of high voltage equipment using established operating discipline, procedural compliance and engineering standards (i.e. IEEE, ISA, NFPA, NEC). This engineer is responsible for maintaining these assets and their protective systems to meet the production targets set by the business.

Requirements

  • BS Electrical Engineering.
  • 5 years plant high voltage and instrumentation experience.
  • Keen computer skills with knowledge of MS Office and SAP PM.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Sel Relays, switchgear ranging from 480V to 138kV, AC and DC controls, p&ids, schematics.
  • Intermediate knowledge of condition monitoring systems and equipment and process trending.
  • Intermediate knowledge of PM creation and reliability centered maintenance and best practices.
  • Basic knowledge of PSM.
  • Proficiency using root cause failure analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe and efficient operation of the high voltage equipment using established operating disciplines and procedures.
  • Ensure that safety and environmental compliance is achieved.
  • Maintain plant assets and protective systems integrity.
  • Define and maintain the correct operating envelopes.
  • Investigate deviations and identify solutions to mitigate.
  • Participate in the development of operating procedures and training materials.
  • Initiate Management of Change process and participate in Risk Assessments and incident investigations.
  • Complete all assigned training and action items from PHAs, incidents, audits, etc in a timely manner.
  • Support established production targets by ensuring reliable equipment availability.
  • Lead efforts to identify and execute scope during Turn Around activities.
  • Benchmark, identify and implement best in class improvements and practices to improve the operation and efficiency of the equipment.
  • Systematically define, design, develop, monitor, and refine an asset maintenance plan.
  • Provide technical support to production, maintenance, project, and process engineering groups.
  • Track equipment mean time between failures/ repairs and identify opportunities to optimize while minimizing cost and waste.
  • Identify, track and communicate key performance indicators for critical equipment.
  • Provide support to operations during upset conditions, start-ups and T/As.
  • Support on call schedule for weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Manage multiple/changing priorities.
