About The Position

We are looking for a High Voltage Electrician to join our Petrochemicals (CP) team in Port Arthur, TX. As a High Voltage Electrician within the I&E group, you will be responsible for electrical and minor instrumentation duties as assigned. Duties include the installation and/or repair of electrical, generating and power distribution equipment and minor instrumentation task in support of instrumentation technicians at the Port Arthur Site.During your 4/10 shift as a High Voltage Electrician, you will Work with I&E Supervisor and maintenance coordinators, shift supervisors, operating technicians, instrument/electrical technicians, and maintenance technicians to accomplish and document routine and non-routine maintenance work including preventative maintenance, regulator inspections and assists in the installation/inspection of work related to capital projects. Provide switching of distribution equipment throughout the site.Inspect, monitor, maintain, install, troubleshoot, document and repair electrical distribution equipment rated to 34,500 volts. Types of equipment include facility generators (simple cycle cogeneration) and associated instrumentation and controls, power distribution and associated substation equipment, plant power management system(s), industrial motor control systems, plant lighting systems, transformers, automatic transfer switches, uninterruptible power systems, programmable logic controllers and process control systems. Exercise initiative and judgment in planning and organizing electrical work, completing the work in a safe and organized manner, and assuring the work is in accordance with the National Electrical Code, API Standards and BASF standards. You will also receive and act upon I&E Supervisor's instructions and notify them of status of daily, weekly, and monthly routine tasks at the end of each day, as well as communicate to them and/or to the Senior Electrical Engineer any deficiencies in equipment and make recommendations for corrective actions and improvements. Document all routine preventative maintenance tasks, inspections, repairs, and all non-routine tasks. In line with this, you will also track and update assigned tasks in maintenance management system on a regular basis. You will hel eliminate/reduce repetitive equipment problems through tracking failures and recommending changes and maintain supplies in instrument/electrical. Cover on-call duties on a rotating basis with other HV electricians. Be potentially required to work with waste that is deemed to be hazardous by RCRA or other regulations. Requirements

  • Have a High School diploma and 6+ years of craft experience. Associate’s degree in electrical fields preferred.
  • Have experience in the operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of one or more of the following: high voltage electrical power distribution equipment from 120 volts to 230,000 volts, simple or combined cycle cogeneration plants and industrial motor control.
  • Are familiar with National Electrical Code, electrical safety and the hazards associated with electrical energy and arc flash.
  • Have good working knowledge of refinery, petrochemical, chemical and power distribution/cogeneration technologies.
  • Have correctable vision, as depth perception and peripheral sight necessary. You also must have color vision to distinguish colors and able to hear and conduct telephone conversations. In addition, you must be able to properly wear full face and half mask respirators and self-contained breathing apparatuses, be able to smell and recognize differences in intensity or quality to detect gas or chemical odors indicating leaks and their location.
  • Are able to walk, crawl in holes, climb ladders and stairs, hills and levees.
