About The Position

The Presidio Trust is seeking a High Voltage Electrical Worker who will support the Utilities Department. The Presidio Trust is an innovative federal agency that stewards and shares the history, beauty, and wonder of the Presidio for everyone to enjoy forever. Reporting to the High Voltage Electrical Supervisor, the High Voltage Electrical Worker assists the electrician in installing and repairing wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment by performing most typical tasks of the electricians trade. Detailed instructions are provided on new assignments along with close supervision and review. Simple, routine tasks are performed without much supervision after they are learned. This is a full-time position with benefits and a starting at $40.11 per hour, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. This position is included in a bargaining unit, specifically the Laborers International Union of North America, Local 792, United Public Employees of California. Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid State of California Drivers License Class C or higher
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to communicate effectively to customers and Trust staff
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts
  • Ability to follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel; climb and balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in measuring, cutting, bending, threading, assembling, and installing electrical conduit.
  • Pulls wiring through conduit.
  • Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
  • Assists in installing control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels.
  • Assists in testing continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope.
  • Assists in the repairs of faulty equipment or systems.
  • Other duties as assigned. More difficult work may be performed under close supervision.
