About The Position

Kamehameha Schools Kapālama Campus High School is seeking a High School Teacher at Large to join their team. The ideal candidate has a background in Math/Science and is a student–centered educator with effective instructional practices, strong classroom management skills, and a commitment to Hawaiian Culture – Based Education. The Teacher at Large is a regular, full time faculty member who serves primarily in their assigned school but could be assigned anywhere from K-12 as the need arises. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: substitute teaching (daily), covering teacher supervision duties, supporting students by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring, small group intervention and student support, assisting other teachers with instruction, assessments, grading and other classroom responsibilities, participating in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions, events, and trips, participating in school-based and campus-wide staff professional development activities, and other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods appropriate for students at the respective grade level.
  • Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals.
  • Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines; manage small and large groups of students in a classroom environment; communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Teaching credentials appropriate for the level of students being taught.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current age-appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Recent teaching experience, coursework, or other activity in primary area(s) on instruction.
  • Previous experience teaching the age levels and subject areas of the specific teaching position.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a daily substitute teacher at assigned school (Elementary, Middle, or High) but, depending on the areas of highest need, could serve throughout the campus from grades K-12
  • Teacher supervision duties
  • Supporting students by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring

  • Assisting other teachers with instruction, assessments, grading and other classroom responsibilities
  • Participating in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions, events, and trips

  • Looking beyond the walls of their classroom and strive for/demonstrate Global Competence and how their work will expand the impact of students’ work to their families, and local and global communities
  • Deeply investing in the Learners’ Well-Being and health, safety, physical, socially, and emotionally. Teachers must recognize the relationship between social-emotional learning and academic performance and aspire toward developing and teaching the “whole child,”
  • Designing and facilitating differentiated and personalized learning goals and activities that follow a coherent sequence, are aligned to instructional goals, and engage students in high-level cognitive activity
  • Contributing to the development of the Learners’ Strong Foundation based in knowledge of world and Hawaiian history and genealogy ('Ike Kupuna), care for the land (Aloha 'aina), and Kupono--honorable character based in Hawaiian and Christian values
  • The commitment to these beliefs ensures that our Native Hawaiian students grow with a firm footing of character, identity, integrity and conviction
