About The Position

Pref-Tech’s Summer Internship Program provides students with exposure to the security integration industry through hands-on experience across various departments within the organization. This opportunity is open to all qualified applicants, with students from Del Valle High School encouraged to apply. Technician Interns will gain practical experience in security integration to include functional understanding of low voltage systems and assisting in installation of cabling, mount equipment, install card readers, door contacts, mag locks, electrified strikes and integrated systems. Due to job site safety requirements and federal labor regulations, technician internships require participants to be at least 18 years old at the time of employment.

Requirements

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Employment eligibility will be verified upon hire in accordance with federal law.
  • Reliable transportation to get to our Austin Office: 3709 Promontory Point Dr., Suite 106, M-F 7am-4pm.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to job site requirements and federal labor restrictions.

  • Willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks like walking, standing, lifting 50lbs, and ascending/descending ladders and stairs of varying heights with reasonable accommodation as applicable.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • General knowledge of operating hand tools.
  • Access to a cell phone for work-related communication.
  • Must pass a drug screening and participate in the random drug screening program
  • Must pass a background check and have no felony convictions
  • Ability to perform physical tasks like walking, standing, driving.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat and rain.
  • Capable of ascending and descending ladders (6–14 feet) and stairs of varying heights with minimal restrictions, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the on-site teams on construction sites and/or in active office spaces to get a sense of the day-to-day duties and responsibilities of the Operations department.
  • Become familiar with Company processes and operational techniques through completing required in-house training.
  • Opportunity to shadow team members.
  • Install cabling, mount equipment, install card readers, door contacts, mag locks, electrified strikes and integrated systems.
  • Functional understanding of low voltage systems, relays, principals of normally closed/normally open, series and parallel wiring.
  • General understanding of Network Topology.
  • Use a multi-meter to test for voltage, continuity, and resistance.
  • Operate any hand tools and equipment necessary to perform all associated tasks.
  • Participate in all required company events including (but not limited to) orientation, onboarding, trainings, workshops, department or companywide meetings, mentorship activities, and offsite visits as requested or required.
