As a High School Intern – Engineering with Caterpillar in Pontiac, IL, you will be working with a team of engineering, quality, maintenance, and production professionals supporting some of Caterpillar’s world class fuel system components. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a team making improvements in safety, quality, velocity, and cost while you gain valuable experience and grow your skills and knowledge. Project scope and complexity will be adjusted to meet the capabilities of the intern. We would prefer an intern interested in pursuing a career in engineering, quality, or statistics. The intern needs strong computer skills with Microsoft Office type programs, and we will provide the training needed on other special software. This position is expected to last from January - May with the expectations of working part-time (10 to 20 hours per week) during the school year, with the opportunity to work 40 hours per week during school breaks.

Requirements

  • Candidate must currently be enrolled in High School as a Junior or Senior.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must be willing and able to complete daily work commute to the Pontiac facility using reliable transportation.
  • Good communication skills and strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Microsoft Excel and Minitab Statistical Software to analyze data.
  • Utilize Microsoft Word to update work instructions.
  • Populate machine results documentation into Sharepoint system.
  • Work with maintenance on implementing continuous improvement projects.
  • Work with machine original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Pontiac tool design on updating machine documentation.
