About The Position

The Earth and Biological Sciences Directorate (EBSD) leads novel and necessary research in three core areas: Atmospheric and Climate Sciences, Biological Sciences, and Environmental Molecular Sciences. The contributions of EBSD staff are many as we continue to elevate the impact of PNNL's science mission: to understand, predict, and control the complex adaptive systems underlying the science behind Earth, energy, and security. The Computational Biology group within EBSD is seeking ambitious, high caliber sophomore, junior or senior high school students for intern assignments within the Student Research Apprenticeship Program (SRAP). This summer internship is a research-based experience for students who are sophomores, juniors or seniors and/or students traditionally underrepresented in science and engineering. SRAP is a 10-week program, estimated based on start date; the anticipated start date for summer cohort will be June 17, 2025. The goal of the program is to develop technical abilities of interns through an immersive applied science experience. The program includes a 2 week educational course that includes basics of computing (Python and R), applied biology, and mathematics. The program also includes social and work activities alongside undergraduate and graduate level interns and PNNL research staff. After the 2 week course, interns will work with research staff and mentors across a spectrum of science disciplines and learn about computational biology research.
