About The Position

The High School Softball Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the head coach in the organization and administration of the softball team, ensuring compliance with district policies and the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHAA) rules. The role involves providing a safe environment for students, maintaining accurate team records, and engaging in positive coaching methodologies. The assistant coach will also be involved in tryouts, practices, and athletic contests, while fostering relationships with students, parents, and the athletic booster club.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university (for Head Coach).
• Substitute Teacher Certification (for Assistant Coach).
• Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate (for Head Coach).
• CPR Certification (for both Head Coach and Assistant Coach).
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals and regulations.
• Ability to write reports and engage in correspondence with parents.
• Ability to solve a variety of problems in different situations.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in coaching softball or similar sports.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with diverse student populations.

Responsibilities

• Have a comprehensive knowledge of the rules and fundamentals of softball.
• Provide emergency first aid as needed.
• Attend all conference general meetings and selection meetings.
• Organize and administer the coaching of the team, enforcing MSHAA rules.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date team rosters with the Athletic & Activities Office.
• Prepare equipment and supply budget requests for the Assistant Principal for Athletics & Activities.
• Inspect and oversee the issuance and collection of equipment, maintaining inventory records.
• Conduct tryouts, practices, team meetings, and athletic contests, including off-season programs.
• Report injuries of participants to the Assistant Principal for Athletics & Activities.
• Employ positive coaching methodologies and provide a safe environment for students.
