About The Position

The Principal will supervise, coordinate, and improve the activities of the high school in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child. They will provide leadership designed to create systems and culture that allow staff and students to thrive, and effectively and efficiently implement the policies of the Board of Education, district administration, and the School Board.

Requirements

  • Iowa Administration and Evaluator approval license required
  • MA in Educational Leadership required
  • Successful secondary administrative experience
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable

  • Ensure the proper integration of athletics, academics, and extracurricular programs.
  • Develop, assess, and maintain curriculum and other instructional materials.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain student activities.
  • Evaluate and assess the teacher’s classroom techniques, interpersonal skills, classroom management, and work ethic.
  • In partnership with the District Human Resources team, lead the hiring process for school level positions, assess for qualified applicants and finalize assignment for all building staff
  • Provide consistent and equitable use of the District’s Comprehensive Behavior Approach (CBA)
  • Assist in the creation of, distribution of, and compliance with the Negotiated Agreements for staff members.
  • Ascertain professional development in the realms of curriculum and instructional strategies for staff and students.
  • Observe and review the performance of staff personnel to provide a basis for effective counseling, feedback and optimum performance.
  • Review periodically the educational philosophy and objectives of the school in cooperation with the teachers and members of the school community.
  • Participate in the selection, orientation, and in-service training of staff.
  • Assist in the annual budget for the school and school sponsored programs.
  • Determine and oversee all facility improvement plans within budget guidelines.
  • Serve as the stakeholder relations expert, including staff, student, community and parental relations.
  • Make recommendations to the Superintendent and Executive Cabinet concerning policy, practice, procedure, and personnel.
  • Acts as a liaison for the programs that are sponsored or affiliated with the school such as the Athletic Boosters, PSTO, Alumni Association, Building Vertical Team, etc.
  • Authorize and administer all Fund Raising Requests, Field Trips, and Guest Speakers.
  • Ensure all appropriate safety and security procedures are in place and utilized daily
  • Handle school related publicity.
  • Collaborate with Educational Service Center staff and District Administrators to implement district level initiatives.
  • Create a school environment where people feel valued, inspired, and empowered to do their best work
  • Other duties as assigned
