About The Position

The Catholic High School Physics and Physical Science Teacher provides rigorous and engaging instruction in physics and physical science while integrating Catholic values into the learning environment. This role involves teaching students about the principles of physics, scientific inquiry, and the natural laws of God’s creation, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and ethical responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Physical Science, Science Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • State teaching certification in Science for secondary education.
  • Strong knowledge of physics, physical science, and effective science teaching strategies.
  • Ability to integrate faith into instruction and classroom culture.
  • Excellent classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Passion for inspiring students to explore science within a faith-based framework.

Nice To Haves

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience teaching in a Catholic school or familiarity with Catholic education is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver comprehensive lessons in Physics and Physical Science, aligning with state and diocesan academic standards.
  • Teach fundamental scientific principles, including motion, forces, energy, waves, electricity, and the nature of matter.
  • Integrate Catholic teachings and ethical considerations into discussions on science, emphasizing the harmony between faith and reason.
  • Utilize diverse instructional strategies, including hands-on experiments, technology, and real-world applications, to engage students in scientific discovery.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students at varying skill levels, including those needing remediation or advanced challenges.
  • Assess student learning through tests, labs, projects, and other formative and summative assessments.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to enhance students' understanding of scientific concepts and critical thinking skills.
  • Encourage a growth mindset and scientific curiosity in students.
  • Prepare students for standardized tests, college entrance exams, and further studies in STEM fields.
  • Serve as a role model of Catholic values, ethics, and virtues in and out of the classroom.
  • Encourage students to explore the wonders of the universe as part of God’s creation, promoting a faith-based perspective on science.
  • Participate in school liturgies, prayer services, retreats, and other faith-based activities.
  • Foster a classroom environment that promotes both academic excellence and moral development.
  • Maintain a structured, respectful, and Christ-centered classroom environment.
  • Establish and uphold high expectations for student behavior, participation, and academic integrity.
  • Collaborate with fellow science teachers and faculty members to integrate cross-disciplinary STEM initiatives and faith-based discussions.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, challenges, and successes.
  • Stay updated on educational best practices, scientific advancements, and Catholic teaching methodologies through professional development.
  • Attend faculty meetings, in-service training, and diocesan teacher formation programs.
  • Support extracurricular activities such as science clubs, STEM programs, or science fairs.
