About The Position

The High School Outreach Athletic Trainer (AT) is employed by the hospital or health system and assigned to partner high school(s) to provide comprehensive sports medicine services. This position serves as an extension of the hospital’s sports medicine program, delivering on-site injury prevention, evaluation, emergency care, treatment, and rehabilitation services to student-athletes while strengthening community relationships and supporting physician practice growth. The Athletic Trainer works under the direction of the team physician and within hospital policies and clinical protocols. KEY RESPONSIBLITIES: Clinical Care & Coverage Provide on-site athletic training services for assigned high school(s). Evaluate injuries during practices, competitions, and designated clinic hours. Deliver immediate and emergency care for acute injuries and illnesses. Develop and supervise rehabilitation programs for injured athletes. Determine return-to-play status in consultation with supervising physician. Maintain detailed medical documentation in hospital-approved EMR systems. Physician & Hospital Integration Serve as liaison between student-athletes, parents, coaches, and hospital-employed team physicians. Facilitate referrals to sports medicine physicians, orthopedic specialists, imaging services, and rehabilitation departments within the health system. Support outreach physician clinics held at the school or hospital. Assist with community sports medicine marketing initiatives and relationship development. Injury Prevention & Education Implement injury prevention and performance enhancement programs. Develop Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for athletic venues. Educate athletes, coaches, and parents on injury prevention, concussion protocols, hydration, and conditioning. Coordinate pre-participation physicals in collaboration with hospital providers. Administrative & Program Development Maintain athletic training room operations and medical supplies. Ensure compliance with hospital, state, and school district policies. Track injury data and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. Participate in hospital department meetings and outreach strategy planning. Support sports medicine community events and screenings. Requirements

  • Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in athletic training
  • Minimum Required Licenses: State License, NATA License
  • Minimum Required Certifications: CPR Certification
  • State License: Current state licensures as a Licensed Athletic Trainer
  • Current BOC Certified Athletic Trainer in good standing

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in athletic training, preferably in a secondary school.
  • Preferred Education: Master's degree in athletic training
