About The Position

Under the general supervision of the High School Principal, the High School Mathematics teacher provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Faculty members are expected to uphold the principles of the IB curriculum while fostering a rigorous, engaging, and student-centered learning environment. We are especially interested in teachers with a background in Geometry and the ability to teach the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme course: Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certification in the applicable content area is preferred. Selected candidates who do not hold a valid certification must obtain appropriate certification or credential within one year of hire to be considered for continued employment.
  • Strong understanding of the IB philosophy and its emphasis on inquiry, international-mindedness, and academic rigor
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrate ability to engage students in meaningful and innovative learning experiences
  • Is legally able to work in the United States.
  • Must complete the state-required fingerprinting and criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field
  • Knowledge of International Baccalaureate (IB) programs
  • 1-3 years of experience in an IB World School
  • IBEN Member

Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons that align with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and/or Diploma Programme (DP) framework.
  • Develop and implement student-centered, inquiry-based learning experiences that foster critical thinking, communication, and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design interdisciplinary projects and align instruction with IB standards.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports the social, emotional, and academic needs of all students.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and support student learning.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge of IB philosophy and pedagogy.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support student success
  • Continually strives to improve classroom methods, teaching techniques, increase knowledge of content subject matter, and interpersonal relationships.
  • Effectively displays the ability to work collaboratively with others consistently
  • Utilize effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Display strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Accept and implement constructive feedback in a professional manner.
  • Utilize technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Able to maintain confidential information pertaining to students, employees, volunteers, and the general operations of Westlake Academy.
  • Able to exhibit a growth mindset in executing the rigorous IB framework.
