About The Position

Riverbend High School seeks a dedicated and student-centered Mathematics Teacher to provide high-quality classroom instruction in secondary mathematics. The successful candidate will design and deliver engaging lessons that build students’ conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and mathematical reasoning while supporting a positive and inclusive learning environment. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching Algebra, Algebra Functions Data Analysis (AFDA), and/or Geometry , and who demonstrate success supporting English Learners and students receiving special education services . The ideal candidate will also work collaboratively with the Riverbend High School mathematics team to strengthen instruction and improve student outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate Virginia teaching license with Mathematics endorsement as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and the School Board.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of secondary mathematics instruction and curriculum.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching Algebra, Algebra and Data Functions, and/or Geometry at the high school level.
  • Experience supporting English Learners and students receiving special education services , including differentiation and collaboration with support staff.
  • Experience using instructional strategies that promote mathematical reasoning and student engagement.
  • Prior teaching experience within a public school system.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and delivers engaging daily classroom instruction in mathematics , including courses such as Algebra, Algebra and Data Functions, Geometry, or other mathematics courses as assigned.
  • Plans instruction aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) and division curriculum guidelines.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and maintains evidence of lesson preparation upon request of building administrators.
  • Uses a variety of instructional strategies to develop conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real-world applications of mathematics.
  • Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with varying levels of mathematical readiness.
  • Collaborates with special education teachers, EL staff, and other support personnel to ensure appropriate accommodations and supports for students.
  • Works collaboratively with the mathematics department to align instruction, share best practices, analyze student data, and support departmental goals.
  • Uses formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction to improve learning outcomes.
  • Evaluates student learning, provides timely feedback, and maintains accurate records of student performance.
  • Creates a structured classroom environment that encourages student engagement, persistence, and confidence in mathematics.
  • Supports students in developing strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and mathematical communication.
  • Participates in professional learning communities, department meetings, and collaborative planning to improve instruction.
  • Administers standardized assessments in accordance with established procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
