About The Position

Position Summary The High School Healthcare Career Exploration Intern participates in a structured, school-approved career exploration experience designed to introduce students to careers in healthcare. This role provides supervised exposure to patient care environments, interdisciplinary teamwork, and formal nurse aide education while supporting a positive patient and resident experience. Interns will engage in observational shadowing, Life Enhancement programming support, and non-clinical assistance under direct supervision. As part of this experience, interns will enroll in and attend the Nurse Aide Training Program beginning May 4, 2026, through June 1, 2026, including all required lecture, laboratory, and clinical components. Interns must comply with all program rules, attendance requirements, clinical standards, and organizational policies. The internship period runs from April 13, 2026, through June 1, 2026, with the week of April 20 off for school vacation. Welcome to Hebrew SeniorLife Careers! Requirements

  • Current high school senior participating in a school-approved career exploration or internship program.
  • Eligible to enroll in and complete the Nurse Aide Training Program.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work under supervision.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Demonstrated interest in healthcare careers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must meet all pre-placement requirements, including background checks, health screenings, and required vaccinations, as applicable.
  • Must comply with Nurse Aide Training Program regulations, including attendance, conduct, and clinical participation standards.
  • Interns may not perform patient care tasks outside of training, observation, or supervised activities permitted by program guidelines.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout patient care areas for extended periods.
  • Ability to assist with wheelchair transport and activity setup

Responsibilities

  • Participate in structured shadowing opportunities with nursing, Life Enhancement, and interdisciplinary care team members.
  • Support Life Enhancement staff with unit-based and facility-wide programming and activities.
  • Assist with supervised individual patient engagement activities that enhance quality of life.
  • Support sensory room activities where applicable.
  • Transport patients or residents in wheelchairs to approved locations in accordance with safety protocols and training.
  • Attend unit meetings and observe care team discussions related to patient experience and operations.
  • Actively participate in all required components of the Nurse Aide Training Program, including classroom instruction, laboratory skills practice, simulation, and clinical experience.
  • Adhere to all Nurse Aide Training Program requirements, including attendance, professionalism, confidentiality, infection control, and scope-of-practice limitations.
  • Comply with all organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including HIPAA and safety guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of learning objectives and patient experience.
