About The Position

The High School Graduation Coach will ensure that 100% of high school students at an IDEA Cincinnati Campus are on-track to graduate in four years. This role functions as a teacher of record, instructing students in the fundamentals of literacy, arithmetic, and financial literacy. The coach also provides support and oversight for workstreams related to High Graduation Requirements, the district’s Portrait of a Graduate, Credit Recovery, and high school assessments including Pre-ACT/ACT, SAT, and Advanced Placement (AP) Exams. By contributing to the district’s approach to academic support, character development, and overall high school readiness, the High School Graduation Coach safeguards support for high school students who need additional remediation or targeted intervention. This role reports to the High School Principal at each IDEA Cincinnati Campus. IDEA Public Schools is a multi-state network of tuition-free, Pre-K-12 public charter schools, serving over 80,000 college-bound students in 143 schools across Texas, Florida, and Ohio, with a legacy of sending 100% of its graduates to college.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
  • Experience in High School classroom setting
  • Knowledge of core academic subjects like Mathematics, Literacy/English Language Arts, Financial Literacy
  • Knowledge of online platforms like iReady, Edmentum, Lexia, Zearn, MTSS/RTI, and Ohio Graduation Requirements for class of 2023 and beyond
  • Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior using Logical Consequences, PBIS systems, and Teach Like A Champion techniques
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment

Nice To Haves

  • High level of content-area proficiency in K-12 Mathematics or English Language Arts as evidenced by teaching certification, field of study, or work-experience
  • Experience in a K-12 classroom setting
  • Middle or Adolescent to Young Adult Certifications in Math, English Language Arts, Career Technical

Responsibilities

  • Implement state learning standards and IDEA curricula and assessments to meet ambitious academic expectations
  • Learn, master, and deliver relevant content and grade-level support
  • Submit weekly content plans for feedback that focus on remedial support and intervention in Mathematics and English Language Arts
  • Receive and respond professionally to feedback aligned to the Guideposts for Excellent Teaching, IDEA’s rubric defining best practices related to lesson preparation and execution, culture, responsiveness to student data, and professionalism beyond the classroom
  • Maintain a “Common Board” configuration that highlights key components of your daily lesson(s)
  • Implement formative and summative assessments to track each individual student’s progress and learning needs, adjust content plans accordingly, and update gradebook weekly
  • Communicate students’ progress with students and families on a weekly basis with an emphasis on progress towards requirements named in Graduation Plan and Portrait of a Graduate
  • Support the administration of assessments such as District Exams, Pre-ACT/ACT, SAT, and Advanced Placement (AP) Exams
  • Effective facilitation and personal use of technology as a communication and educational tool to improve student achievement and manage work-related tasks
  • Execute classroom-level implementation of the school’s clear and consistent behavior management system that develops students’ character and sense of community in the classroom
  • Lead the classroom-level implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, identifying and documenting student learning and conduct needs, documenting evidence-based interventions, analyzing student data, and collaborating with the school-level MTSS Team to support students’ growth and development
  • Report student learning trends via school-level mechanisms including: Exit Ticket Trackers, Data Huddles, Data Boards, and Student Work Analysis Meetings
  • Help shape and support a school-wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student
  • Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on trust, understanding and respect for the communities in which they identify
  • Participate in weekly or bi-weekly 30-minute manager check-ins (with Principal or Assistant Principal), grade-level meetings, before and after-school duties, weekly professional development and school-wide meetings and functions
  • Engage in summer and year-long district, school and personal learning and development
  • Lead parent-teacher conferences during designated times that may include additional after-school time commitments
  • Support student health and nutrition by tracking compliance with classroom participation in IDEA Greater Cincinnati’s universal “Supper” and breakfast programs, as applicable
  • Expect a minimum of 40+ hours spent at school per week
  • Additional responsibilities may include: after-school tutoring or Saturday school opportunities based on the needs of our scholars (with the opportunity to earn additional compensation)
  • Teachers are encouraged to volunteer at two student engagement and two student recruitment events annually
