The Computer Science CATE teacher will work with Junior and Senior level students who have chosen to participate in the Major Program of study at AAST. The Computer Science CATE teacher will facilitate the instruction of students with a desire to pursue careers in Computer Science including Computer Systems Analyst and Software Developer. The teacher will seek out opportunities for students to participate in local, regional, and national projects and contests as well as local shadowing and internship experiences. The teacher will maintain the Technical Advanced Placement agreement with Horry Georgetown Technical College so that students have the opportunity to earn credit hours at that institution; additionally, this teacher will need to serve on the HGTC Advisory Board as well as maintaining a CATE Advisory Board for the Computer Science Major at AAST. As a teacher at a program school in Horry County, teacher will need to participate in all aspects of student recruitment, including Open House events, application review and student interviews. Key skills needed for this position include time-management, prioritization, and communication skills, strong writing skills, creativity, teamwork, the ability to meet deadlines, extensive knowledge and experience with social media platforms, and the ability to plan, manage, and execute initiatives. The Computer Science major is designed to focus on the understanding and design of computers and computational processes. Students enrolled in this major will think both concretely and abstractly to solve problems that require creativity, careful reasoning, and precision. This major spans theory and practice. The major explores the design and operation of computer hardware and software by developing problem-solving skills and the ability to apply computational thinking to real-world problems.
