About The Position

The High School Counselor at Windermere Preparatory School is a full-time, 12-month position focused on providing academic advising and social-emotional support to high school students. The counselor will assist students in their academic journey and the college admissions process, ensuring they develop a comprehensive four-year plan and receive the necessary guidance to navigate their educational and personal challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Guidance, Education or Social Work; Master's Degree preferred.
  • 3+ years experience as a high school counselor, college advisor, or college admissions counselor.
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Good time management skills and flexibility in dealing with multi-functional tasks.
  • Experience working with students and parents from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience with educational software and student assessment tools.
  • Familiarity with computer applications and word processing functions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic advising based on students' grades, skills, test scores, and college goals.
  • Support students in discovering their abilities, interests, and talents.
  • Advise and counsel students through academic and social-emotional challenges.
  • Refer significant concerns to behavioral health specialists.
  • Collaborate with other counselors to deliver the college planning curriculum.
  • Communicate with students and parents to develop individual college plans.
  • Assist with SAT/ACT/TOEFL and Duolingo registration and test prep opportunities.
  • Track and report student college acceptance data.
  • Teach guidance classes and provide counseling through planned activities.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development related to college counseling.
  • Develop academic accommodation plans for students with diagnoses.
  • Meet with new students for course scheduling and academic orientation.
  • Participate on a Student Success Team to identify students needing services.
  • Provide individual planning and responsive services for students and families.
  • Support and attend student activities and events.
  • Assist students and parents in understanding school policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with behavioral health specialists to implement student support plans.
  • Conduct evening sessions with parents to enhance community involvement.
