The High School Art Teacher develops students’ foundational artistic skills with a focus on applications in cosmetology and beauty-related careers. This role emphasizes color theory, design, and creative expression while preparing students for future coursework or careers in cosmetology, esthetics, and related industries. Requirements

  • Michigan Teaching Certification Required
  • Must have Art certification (Cosmetology Pathway Focus)
  • Ability to obtain a CTE certification
  • Must reside in Michigan
  • Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or related field
  • Valid teaching certification (or ability to obtain certification)
  • Strong knowledge of color theory and design principles
  • Ability to connect art instruction to real-world and career applications
  • Ability to clear required background check
  • Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week is required.
  • Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver visual arts instruction aligned to state standards and CTE pathways
  • Teach foundational skills such as color theory, design principles, and composition
  • Connect art concepts to cosmetology applications (hair color, makeup design, nail art, branding)
  • Provide hands-on, project-based learning experiences
  • Incorporate real-world applications (e.g., client design concepts, portfolio development)
  • Support student exploration of careers in cosmetology and related fields
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and skill levels
  • Assess student learning through projects, portfolios, and presentations
  • Maintain a safe, organized classroom environment with proper materials management
  • Collaborate with CTE staff to align curriculum with cosmetology pathways
  • Communicate regularly with students, families, and staff
  • Travels as required (on average once per month and/or approximately 20% of the time) for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and as required by school

Benefits

  • This position offers a base salary around $47,000 plus the eligibility of a performance bonus.
  • Stride, Inc. considers a person’s education, experience, and qualifications, as well as the position’s work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value when determining a new employee’s salary level. Salaries will differ based on these factors, the position’s level and expected contribution, and the employee’s benefits elections. Offers will typically be in the bottom half of the range.
