About The Position

The Sonographer will assist with the overall function of the unit by scheduling, billing, quality improvement and the general flow of the various components of the Perinatal Unit. The Sonographer will supervise the daily work flow and coordinate the services of the Diagnostic Ultrasound Unit in the Perinatal Department. Participates with the Director in the training and education of sonography students, registered nurses, and Residents. Participates in establishing priorities for department functions and activities. Participates with certain aspects of the operational and financial planning for the unit. Utilizes research methods to support and advance ultrasound practice. Assists with the creation of protocols and data collection for new research projects. Evaluates functions and safety of sonography equipment. Seeks opportunities to further refine expertise in related technical skill by attending workshops and inservices. Keeps current on events in ultrasound and perinatal nursing. Participates in outside programs and community activities in order to represent the institution as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an ARMDS certified training program is required
  • 3 – 5 years clinical experience in Maternal Fetal Medicine
  • Nasal bone certification
  • Strong organization and communication skills required.
  • Nuchal translucency certification.
  • Competency with computer hardware and software is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred with evidence of continuing education.
  • Additional training in normal cross sectional anatomy and fetal physiology, as well as the diagnosis of fetal, placental, uterine, and ovarian pathology is preferred.
