About The Position

This position is for a High Performance Computing (HPC) Computational Scientist at GDIT, supporting the High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) User Productivity Enhancement and Training (PET) team in Dayton, OH. The role involves working with cutting-edge applications to advance the client's mission, delivering solutions for complex needs, and providing expert computational support to users of supercomputing systems within the Department of War (DoW). The HPCMP PET team acts as a customer-facing presence for the DoW science and technology community, offering subject matter expert (SME) advice for new initiatives, ongoing projects, and support requirements.

Requirements

Master of Science degree
3+ years of related experience (Minimum of 2 years of relevant HPC experience)
Experience working on technology projects, including meeting schedules on time and managing customer expectations.
Familiarity with commonly used HPC services (i.e., high performance file systems, modules for installing applications, compilers, MPI, OpenMP, profiling tools).
Programming experience with various languages (Python, C, C++, etc...).
Must be a US citizen and be eligible for a Top Secret clearance.
Ability to clearly present ideas to both technical and non-technical users.
Experience analyzing solutions components, understanding systems integration challenges, and identifying technology gaps that must be resolved to reach performance targets and functionality requirements.
Writing code for use on HPCs.

Nice To Haves

PhD preferred
Background in Computer Science or in physics-based computation, such as computational structural mechanics (CSM); computational electromagnetics and acoustics (CEA); computational fluid dynamics (CFD)

Responsibilities

Engage with the HPC community to build an understanding of current and future HPC needs and stay current with new technology solutions and optimizations.
Drive exploration and innovation of new technologies and capabilities relevant to HPC computing and collaborate with other technical teams to evaluate for future implementation.
Push to understand needs in-depth and think broadly and creatively about solutions.
Track and manage tasks across concurrent efforts with different customer groups, ensuring delivery is on schedule and as planned.
Build and maintain trust with the team and customer base.
Understand (at a high-level) what is driving research and how HPC can best support and enable it.
Attend or lead meetings and discussions with team members and customers to troubleshoot complicated technical problems and brainstorm ways to continuously improve services.
Work closely with other team members and your Team Lead to enhance and expand fundamental HPC capabilities and complete technical projects.
Occasionally present to senior leadership on HPC best practices, new and interesting cloud technologies, other relevant advances (such as AI & ML), and approaches to solving challenging technical issues.
