About The Position

Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation. Impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team. Has significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment. The High Mach Gas Turbine (HMGT) Systems Engineering Leader will direct a team of cross functional engineers on technical and program execution for the HMGT program. The HMGT program is currently in the initial pre-conceptual design phase of a multi-phase demonstrator program for a government customer.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited university or college.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in design, systems integration, or qualification engineering.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant turbomachinery and/or systems integration experience.
Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires a U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.
Ability to travel out of state a minimum of 15% annually.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
Active US government Secret Security Clearance, preferred with AP approval
Demonstrated ability to lead and influence across the matrix
Experience with DOD Qualification, airworthiness, or FAA certification processes.
Experience with GE NPI Tollgate and Military Qualification processes
Demonstrated experience with Earned Value Management (EVM).
Developing and negotiating proposals
Direct interaction with customers (Airframers and US Gov't)
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership for all systems engineering and design integration activities including requirements definition, requirements compliance, configuration control, development, maturation, and demonstration.
Conducts component and product integration. All activities that span multiple components and products and are concerned with how to integrate for maximum performance and operability. Manages product and systems requirements, specifications and flow down. Drives validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system level testing. Responsible for defining product requirements for the module / component / subcontractors and partners teams. Manages interface between components and execution organizations.
Responsible for driving CTQ / Risk trades within the teams designing the components. Manages the overall product configuration and configuration control system.
Leads proposal efforts in response to RFI, RFP, and RFQs for both internal and external customers.
Provides forward looking strategy for HMGT product vision and technology development to drive a competitive advantage.
Develops and manages program schedules and budget baselines to meet business objectives.
Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
