About The Position

Job Description: Main duty is to provide polite, professional, fast, and courteous service; high level of professionalism and focus on detail is expected. Essential functions include taking orders, polishing glasses, pouring water and wine, bussing and resetting tables, and running food. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule in order to accomplish all major responsibilities and tasks. Must be a self-motivator and motivator of others. Must work in a safe, prudent and organized manner. Must have a good knowledge of food and preparation. Must have or quickly acquire a good knowledge of wine. Must be able to relate to all levels of guests and management. Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in a similar position. Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time. Must be able to consistently delight and satisfy our guest. Physical Requirements: Most work tasks are performed indoors though there will be also be restaurant seating as well as cocktail tables outdoors on the terrace. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, including excessive heat and cold. Physical ability to walk and handle trays, food items, glasses, etc. in a safe and constructive manner for at least 4 hours at a time. Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach other locations of the hotel on a timely basis. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks occasionally. Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates. Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near and color vision and depth perception. Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment. Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods. Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and oral. Qualifications: Education: High school or equivalent education required Experience: Serving experience required; hospitality experience preferred Licenses or Certificates: Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates or permits. Grooming: All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per The Umstead Hotel standards.
