About The Position

The Library Board is seeking a dedicated and professional individual to take on the role of the Hendersonville Library Director. This position is responsible for the daily operation and management of the Hendersonville Public Library. These duties include, but are not limited to, facility stewardship, employee management, customer service, public relations, programs, and financial management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, MLS, MLIS, or must obtain library certification within the first 5 years of employment.
  • Administrative and/or Management experience.
  • Valid Tennessee Driver's License.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, Internet browsers, and email platforms.
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and interact with patrons professionally.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and the capacity to implement new ideas into library programs and events.
  • Physical stamina to walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods, and the ability to lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organizing, promoting, and presenting programs that inform, inspire, and provide recreational opportunities year-round.
  • Coordinate Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests, managing the borrowing and lending of materials with other libraries.
  • Oversee library database management to ensure accurate records and access for patrons.
  • Operate and assist with technology, including the automated circulation system, e-book devices, and public computers.
  • Provide prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable assistance to patrons regarding library materials, equipment, and services.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly library facility, including ensuring that bathrooms, shelves, and furniture are properly cleaned.
  • Manage library accounts, including creating and maintaining records, collecting and reconciling fines, and circulating materials.
  • Efficiently operate common office equipment, such as telephones, copiers, printers, and fax machines.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect individual privacy when handling customer and employee records and personal information.
  • Adhere to and enforce all library and county policies, procedures, and restrictions.
  • Foster cooperative and courteous relationships with patrons, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the daily operations of the library, including opening and closing procedures, assisting customers of all ages, performing shelf reading, weeding, and shelving materials.
