About The Position

The position involves providing assistance to the nursing staff in delivering specific treatments and basic nursing care to assigned patients and their families. The role includes direct and indirect care following physician and nursing orders to ensure the highest standards of age and developmentally specific care. A key responsibility is the setup and operation of the hemodialysis machine under the direction of licensed personnel.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent with direct patient care experience.
• Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) or certification obtained within 18 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Participates in the implementation of the nursing process by giving direct care to renal/dialysis patients, including comfort measures, personal care, treatments, and data collection.
• Ensures quality patient care by following the plan of care and ensuring complete, accurate, and timely communication of patient information.
• Evaluates patients prior to dialysis, recognizing any risk for instability and advising the nurse immediately.
• Ensures dialysis machine is set up according to each patient's prescription prior to use.
• Monitors the progress of dialysis treatment to ensure patient stability and proper equipment functioning, keeping the nurse informed of ongoing procedures.
• Performs maintenance procedures on dialysis equipment, including breakdown of the machine and checks of the R/O water system, ensuring equipment is cleaned according to specifications.
• Maintains effective, positive, and professional communication with the team, co-workers, patients, and family members.
• Takes personal responsibility and initiative for performance by accepting accountability for the care given to assigned patients, maintaining competence, and renewing CCHT listing.
• Provides age/development appropriate patient care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines.
