About The Position

Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) and the Mount Sinai Tisch Cancer Center—an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center—seek an accomplished physician-educator and academic leader to serve as Program Director of the ACGME-accredited Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program. This is a senior academic leadership role with ACGME-required protected time and strong institutional support, responsible for the educational, administrative, and accreditation oversight of a large, nationally recognized fellowship program comprising 24 total fellows. Clinical responsibilities will be tailored to the candidate’s expertise and interests within hematology and/or medical oncology. The fellowship is distinguished by innovative and flexible training pathways, including participation in the ASCO AIRE Pilot Integrated Hematology/Oncology and Hospice and Palliative Medicine Program, structured opportunities for senior fellows to pursue individualized clinical tracks aligned with their career goals, and a distinct advanced fellowship in Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy, providing training in transplantation and novel cellular therapies.

Requirements

  • MD or MD/PhD with board certification in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology
  • Eligible for or licensed to practice medicine in New York State
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical care, graduate medical education, and mentorship
  • Minimum of three years of fellowship or residency leadership experience (e.g., Associate Program Director or equivalent)
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Academic appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, commensurate with experience

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring continuous compliance with ACGME accreditation standards and preparedness for site review
  • Leading curriculum development with a focus on competency-based education and progressive clinical responsibility
  • Overseeing individualized training pathways, including clinical track selection for senior fellows
  • Recruiting, mentoring, evaluating, and promoting fellows, with attention to professional development, well-being, and career advancement
  • Chairing the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) and directing the Annual Program Evaluation and action planning
  • Engaging faculty in fellow supervision, teaching, mentorship, and assessment
  • Promoting fellow scholarly activity, including clinical, translational, and outcomes research, as well as participation in clinical trials
  • Fostering a learning environment emphasizing patient safety, quality improvement, professionalism, and diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Serving as the primary liaison to the Sponsoring Institution, GMEC, and ACGME
  • Representing the fellowship program at institutional, regional, and national levels
