The Role As a Registered Nurse Navigator, you will serve as a vital link in coordinating care for children diagnosed with sickle cell disease. Your role involves working closely with patients, families, and a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to develop personalized care plans that address medical, emotional, and social needs. You will ensure timely access to tests, treatments, and follow-up care, while providing education and support to empower families.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) required; Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana or via Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
  • Graduation from a nationally accredited nursing program
  • 3-5 years of clinical experience preferred, ideally within pediatrics, hematology/oncology, or care coordination
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • Additional advanced life support certifications may be required based on department policies
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, electronic health records, and database management
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with various digital platforms

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with pediatric patients and/or sickle cell populations is highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating comprehensive care during clinic visits, ensuring patients see all necessary providers.
  • Managing patient education, medication refills, FMLA documentation, school notes, and scheduling return visits.
  • Keeping local, state, and national databases up-to-date.
  • Triaging sick calls, assessing patient needs, and coordinating urgent care or same-day appointments with clinic providers.
  • Monitoring lab results, responding to messages in Cerner, and supporting overall care coordination efforts.
