About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to observe and assist higher classified employees in various functions as assigned by management. The role involves securing, loading, delivering, unloading, assembling, placing in position, and distributing tools, materials, supplies, and other equipment to higher classified employees as needed. The position also includes performing less involved routine manual assignments in conjunction with assisting higher classified employees in their assigned duties. The employee will observe all operations of higher classified employees and perform directed assignments as required. Under the direction of a qualified employee, the individual will set up work area protective equipment, de-energize non-electric equipment, and perform related general housekeeping functions to maintain safe work areas. Proper housekeeping must be maintained in 'truck barns' as well as reporting group staging and storage areas. The employee will operate vehicle-mounted equipment under the direct supervision of a qualified employee and perform various ground helper duties as they pertain to department operations. Additionally, the employee will install and operate various equipment as identified by the work group leader and serve as a helper as it pertains to department operations.

Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to work in a variety of work environments including all weather conditions, at extreme heights (above 30 feet), in confined spaces or enclosed vessels, in dark areas or areas with limited lighting, and in hot, foul water, mud, dust, noxious fumes, noisy, and dirty environments with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ability and willingness to perform both indoor and outdoor tasks for extended periods of time (for example, lifting up to 90 pounds with assistance, climbing ladders, wooden poles, steel towers and scaffolding, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pulling/pushing, standing, walking, and squatting).
  • Ability and willingness to operate aerial lifts.
  • Ability and willingness to work on or around hazardous equipment/materials (for example, open flames, heavy equipment, etc.) and/or energized electrical equipment (not within the minimum approach distance (MAD)).
  • Ability and willingness to obtain a valid jurisdictional driver's license within nine (9) months of hire date.
  • Must successfully pass qualification test(s).
  • Ability and willingness to wear and use safety equipment as required by Federal, State, Local and Company regulations.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating shift work on holidays and weekends, and overtime as required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to various Company locations and job sites.
  • Ability and willingness to perform a second role in accordance with Pepco Holdings Emergency Preparedness Guidelines for all employees.
  • Must successfully pass a Criminal History Records Check.

  • Hourly rates will be paid in accordance with terms of the candidate's skills, qualifications, experience or collective bargaining agreement: $23.69/Hr.
