About The Position

This position is located in the Air Support Unit of the Oklahoma City Police Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is responsible for the maintenance and repair of City air fleet by performing diagnosis, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and ensuring helicopters are in proper and safe operating condition.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working on turbine powered Rotorcraft.
  • Possession of a valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic certification.
  • Possession of mechanic's hand tools used in maintenance and repairs on aircraft.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license (Operator).
  • Knowledge of and skill in performing preventative maintenance inspections.
  • Knowledge of and skill in reading and interpreting diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of and skill in repairing and rebuilding aircraft parts according to manufacturer's specifications.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of the various tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of rotary wing aircraft.
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations.
  • Skill in conducting maintenance and repairs on aircraft systems according to FAA airworthiness directives and manufacturer's service bulletins.
  • Knowledge of rotary wing aircraft engines and component functions and operations.
  • Skill in and willingness to practice safety measures during maintenance performance.
  • Skill in conducting modular jet engine overhauls.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to perform assignments after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results.
  • Ability to learn, through on-the-job training and specialized helicopter service schools, to become specialized on all aircraft and equipment in the unit.

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily routine maintenance to include diagnosing equipment malfunctions, making appropriate repairs, modifications, adjustments, or replacements as required.
  • Conducts preventative and occasional emergency maintenance inspections.
  • Purchases, receives, catalogs, and properly stores all aircraft parts.
  • Maintains parts inventory, library of aircraft and engine maintenance manuals, related directives, and bulletins.
  • Maintains and updates inspection, parts replacement, and warranty records.
  • Serves as point of contact, working with the Corporation Commission during annual permitting inspections.
  • Reports and documents inspection results using the City's software.
  • Advises City representatives regarding oil and gas codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
