About The Position

This position is responsible for operating a variety of heavy and light equipment as a member of a crew that specializes in laying asphalt, grading operations, drainage construction/maintenance or other crew operations involved in the construction, repair, and maintenance of roads and public properties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED but not required
  • Minimum 2-3 years' experience within the road construction industry
  • 1 to 2 years' experience operating a paving equipment is required
  • Knowledge of heavy paving equipment
  • Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements.
  • Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
  • Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  • Proper PPE is required at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Operate pickup trucks and various equipment commonly associated with asphalt paving operations, including but not limited to the following: asphalt roller, skid steer, power broom, shuttle buggy, milling machine, backhoe, excavator, loader, dozer and graders.
  • Significant use of hand tools, such as pavement saw, shovel and asphalt lutes
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and the procedures used to control heavy equipment
  • Coordination to use all the controls on pieces of equipment
  • Possessing enough strength to operate the controls on heavy equipment
  • Ability to remain stationary in the seat or operating area of the equipment for prolonged periods
  • Problem-solving skills to diagnose issues with equipment
  • Strong oral communication skills to interact with other workers on the jobsite
  • Operate heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety policy, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
  • Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.
  • Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required.
