About The Position

The Heavy Machine Operator plays a critical role in the manufacturing industry by safely and efficiently operating equipment essential to production processes. This position requires the operator to manage a variety of hand tools, set up and operate punch presses, assemble and pack products, and assist in shipping / receiving. The operator must maintain a strong focus on safety protocols to prevent accidents and equipment damage, contributing to a secure work environment. Ultimately, the Heavy Machine Operator supports the overall manufacturing workflow by combining technical skill, attention to detail, and adherence to operational guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience operating heavy machinery or equipment in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and OSHA regulations related to heavy equipment operation.
  • Organized and able to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, and using measuring instruments.
  • Ability to operate machines and hand tools, such as electric saws, pneumatic drills, hammers, screwdrivers, needle-nose pliers, and wrenches.
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment, such as forklifts and hand carts.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to lift and carry 70 pounds by self and 140 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to stand (60%) and walk (40%) of the time.
  • Ability to twist, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, and climb ladders.
  • Sight and hearing corrected to normal levels.
  • Regular attendance of 40 hours per week during assigned work shift.

Responsibilities

  • Operates drill press, foot-operated rivet closer, and saws; sets up and operates punch presses.
  • Drills holes, deburrs load springs, attaches rivets, slips neoprene into channels, turns eyelets on door bottoms, cuts products to length as specified on orders, buffs and polishes brass products.
  • Assembles products, materials, and cardboard containers.
  • Inserts products into containers; pulls correct insert options into products; addresses and marks contents on containers; labels and polysleeves products.
  • Reports low stock items to Supervisor.
  • Transfers containers to shipping clerk; moves finished material to Assembly and Packaging department; puts material away using forklift or hand carts; assists in unloading trucks.
  • Responsible for following all Company safety policies and procedures, maintaining a safe, organized, and clean work area, and reporting any safety violations to supervisor or Safety Committee.
