Sight inspects and removes defects or any extraneous material from product. Performs general, non-mechanical, labor duties throughout the plant. Prepares raw materials for production. Deposits fatback into cans by hand or meat depositor. Responsible for physically lifting up to 100 pounds as required. Responsible for container inspections to include seam inspections, proper lid placements, and proper fill levels in containers. Responsible for keeping work area clean to include sweeping, dumping, and/or disposing of materials used in production. Responsible for understanding how certain equipment operates and how to stop equipment if the automatic function fails. Should not leave assigned work area unless given permission by the Supervisor and/or Leadperson. Responsible for reporting any mechanical and/or safety problems immediately to the Supervisor and/or Leadperson. Adheres to common safety practices/guidelines, including the wearing of protective clothing and equipment as required. Adheres to plant hygiene standards to ensure high product integrity. Responsible for following food safety, legality and quality policies and procedures within the scope of the job responsibilities such as but not limited to: GMP’s, HACCP, safety, product quality, food security, plant security, etc. Assists in loading and unloading kettles in the retorts. Must be able to operate a forklift, electric pallet jack, bobcat and hoist when needed. Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or Leadperson.
