About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment along with other duties as assigned. This role involves operating heavy earth-moving equipment such as dozers, excavators, loaders, mining trucks, scrapers, and more in all aspects of mining. The operator must perform proper equipment startup and shutdown procedures along with daily servicing of the equipment, ensuring operations are within acceptable design capabilities aided by instrumentation gauges and indicators. All job duties must be performed following MSHA laws and regulations, established company safety policies, and state and federal environmental regulations in a safe and efficient manner consistent with North American Mining standards. Defensive driving and operating practices are essential at all times.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; relevant experience may replace education.
  • Two years of experience operating heavy off-road construction equipment is a plus.
  • Must understand basic mechanical workings of heavy equipment to assess condition and prevent damage.
  • Ability to operate equipment properly within tolerances.
  • Ability to assist with the performance of preventative maintenance and servicing on occasion.
  • Ability to work with GPS units in the equipment.
  • Knowledge and ability to respond to emergencies and unpredictable situations.
  • Ability to recognize unsafe and adverse conditions and the knowledge to correct or report them.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts up to 12 hours per shift, night shifts, and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy earth-moving equipment such as dozers, excavators, loaders, mining trucks, scrapers, and more in all aspects of mining.
  • Perform proper equipment startup and shutdown procedures along with daily servicing of equipment.
  • Operate within acceptable range of design capabilities of the equipment aided by instrumentation gauges and indicators.
  • Perform all job duties following MSHA laws and regulations, established company safety policies, and state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Practice defensive driving and operating at all times.
  • Work with other equipment operators in a safe and organized manner and within established traffic plans.
  • Assist in water management, construction, labor and maintenance activities as necessary.
  • Perform utility work and operate utility equipment.
  • Assist the maintenance department with routine repairs.
  • Keep the supervisor informed of any potential problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
