About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator at Veit's Foundations group in Milwaukee is responsible for operating various types of power construction equipment to excavate, move, and grade earth, as well as erect structures and pour concrete. This role involves adhering to safety protocols, performing routine inspections, and assisting in training entry-level employees.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 6 to 12 months of operating construction equipment experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Considerable knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment under varying working conditions.
• Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.
• OSHA 10 certification, First Aid/CPR certification, and ability to follow safety precautions.
• Ability to read and comprehend grade stakes and/or site plans.
• Good communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
• Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Dependability and consistency in meeting attendance schedules.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment of various sizes and weights used in site or highway construction.
• Follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
• Report problems to the project Foreman, Superintendent, General Superintendent, or Safety Director.
• Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Refer defects or needed repairs to project management.
• Assist in training entry-level employees in maintenance and repair duties.
• Identify underground and overhead utilities prior to excavating.
• Review trenching requirements with the Superintendent and ensure required protection is available.
• Keep project management informed of actions that may affect project success or company operations.
• Perform other projects or duties as assigned by management.
