About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator operates one or more types of heavy equipment, such as bulldozers, graders, excavators, front-end loaders, backhoes, rollers, or similar machinery, to excavate, move, grade, or load earth, rock, or other materials. Work involves reading grade stakes, following hand and electronic signals, and interpreting plans or directions to perform rough and fine grading, trenching, material movement, and site preparation. The operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of assigned equipment, conducting pre-operation inspections, reporting maintenance needs, and following all safety standards and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • 5 years’ prior experience as a heavy equipment operator preferred
  • You must possess a valid CDL.
  • Considerable knowledge of equipment operations and construction and maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment operation and equipment safety.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures.
  • Skill in operation of assigned equipment to include motorized vehicles and equipment, including excavator, shears, grapple, skid steers/bobcat, roller/compactor, loaders, dump truck pickup truck, utility truck
  • Ability to read and understand work orders and organize work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively and amicably with other people.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team situation.
  • Must be able to do the following for a period: stoop, kneel, reach, lift, walk, weed whack, and sit. Some climbing and balancing.
  • Must have the ability to maintain assigned work hours.
  • Must have sufficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.
  • Must possess a valid CDL with no restrictions on Airbrakes.
  • Must be able to pass a medical physical determining fitness for duty.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background screening and drug test.
  • Must be able to obtain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC) per contract.
  • Must be available for regular standby assignments and work scheduled off-hours and emergency overtime as required.
  • Must complete all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
  • Must be proficient with the English Language per contract.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 30 Hour Construction Safety, a plus.
  • CPR/First Aid, a plus.
