About The Position

Primary responsibility of the Heavy Equipment Operator is operating heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner. Heavy equipment may include trucks, cranes, front-end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, large industrial tractors and other pieces of equipment. The Heavy Equipment Operator must also clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by legislation, policies and procedures. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years experience where the job duties include operation of heavy equipment and minor experience in heavy mechanical equipment repair
  • Each complete year of accredited college education in a related field may be substituted for the equivalent number of years of required experience
  • Valid Driver's License complaint with REAL ID Act or willing and able to obtain one
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check
  • Regular, dependable attendance
  • OVERTIME- nights and weekends
  • U. S. citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted
  • Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping
  • Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures (some extreme) and weather conditions
  • PRACTICES WORKPLACE SAFETY in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies Including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Knowledge of truck and equipment safety
  • Knowledge of operation, maintenance, and storage of front end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, and other pieces of heavy equipment
  • Knowledge of road construction and maintenance techniques
  • Use of hand tools and power tools
  • Adaptable and flexible in work situations

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment including driving, lifting, loading, excavation, transporting, tree removal, gravel, dirt and debris removal
  • Operate all heavy equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures
  • Operator may read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans
  • May grease, adjust and make emergency repairs to equipment
  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks
  • Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required
  • Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored
  • Participate in routine maintenance
  • Maintain inventory on tools and equipment
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
