About The Position

Heavy Equipment Operators are required and responsible for the following: Safe operation of equipment/trucks used to move material in the yard -- at times, this will include manual labor on the part of the Equipment Operator. Routine and daily maintenance and cleaning of the equipment operated and the equipment in a cell or task they are assigned to. Ensure the safety of vendors, customers, contractors, and co-workers in the area they are working in. Traveling to an off-site yard or customer’s site could be assigned to qualified and trained operators. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons. Operate heavy equipment, trucks, forklifts, balers, and shears in compliance with company safety policies and procedures Conduct routine equipment inspections and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment, balers, shears, trucks, and forklifts including lubricating moving parts, grease/oil, and perform minor repairs Complete daily inspection sheet Move and position raw materials and finished components with use of material moving equipment and/or manual labor when needed to complete task Follow appropriate standard operating procedures as guidelines for operating and maintaining equipment Identify, sort, and separate ferrous and non-ferrous materials according to grade Perform basic troubleshooting of equipment If equipment used has scale capability, weigh and record weight of material and forward via email Greet and help customers in a safe and professional manner Operate or assist in operating or cleaning and daily maintenance of various equipment as needed to complete task assigned Off-site work could be assigned as needed to aid other company sites or customers in Material Handling and Processing Operators are responsible for the safe operation and completion of any task assigned to enhance daily operation Other Responsibilities: Operate other equipment, if trained Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience operating heavy equipment, preferably cranes or material handlers
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic equipment troubleshooting skills
  • Must have basic computer, email, and printer skills
  • Must have the ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Self-motivated and takes responsibility for own work; can manage interruptions
  • Must perform all duties while meeting safety protocols
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Must be dependable

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma or equivalent, preferred
  • Experience operating electromagnetic cranes or scrap-handling equipment strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of metal scrap grades and recycling processes is a plus
  • Special and off-site training could be required for off-site work

Responsibilities
