About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator at the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) is responsible for operating various types of heavy construction and industrial lift equipment to maintain and repair airport facilities. This role involves ensuring the safety of maintenance operations, performing daily inspections, and training other operators. The position plays a crucial role in maintaining the operational integrity of the airport's infrastructure.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years experience operating specialized heavy construction and lift equipment full time, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Successful completion of GOAA's Heavy Equipment Certification Program for the Trac Hoe, Crane, Gradall, Airboat and other equipment used by Heavy Equipment Operators.
  • Basic knowledge of essential safety equipment and protective devices.
  • Thorough working knowledge of safe rigging and operational limitations of construction and lift equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of specific rules, regulations, and guidelines regarding the safe operation of heavy construction and lift equipment.
  • Ability to interpret grade stakes and cut grade accordingly, read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Valid Florida Commercial Driver's License, Class “A” with tanker endorsement and air brake designation required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate pavement maintenance, industrial lift, and construction equipment, including specialized heavy equipment.
  • Perform pavement and masonry repair and maintain drainage systems.
  • Operate equipment required to apply chemicals in lakes, drainage ditches, and canals to control aquatic plant growth.
  • Maintain contact with the Control Tower to confirm safety of maintenance operations on the AOA.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and operational tests.
  • Complete maintenance work orders as assigned and maintain accurate records of time, materials, and equipment used.
  • Train other Equipment Operators in the use of specialized heavy construction and lift equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
