About The Position

Under the direction of the Street/Drainage Supervisor, performs duties necessary to support the Street/Drainage division to ensure the proper construction, repair, and maintenance of streets, roadways, bridges, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, storm drainage systems, and right-of-ways. Performs as the lead heavy equipment operator.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in Transportation Construction or a related field.
  • Valid State of Texas Class A CDL.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City employees and officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to take and follow oral instructions, as well as hand signals.
  • Ability to work under high demands, short time constraints, and the pressure of a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to properly operate heavy equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction methods, materials and practices with particular emphasis on transportation and/or utility construction and repair.
  • Thorough knowledge of workplace safety practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to work 'on-call' or emergency hours.
  • Must be able to work outside normal business hours.
  • Must exhibit attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
  • Must be able to communicate and present oneself in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to understand and comprehend technical instructions and manuals.
  • Must pass all post offer pre-employment processes and/or procedures, including Drug Screen, Physical Examination, and applicable Background Checks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned duties necessary to support the Street/Drainage Division by ensuring the proper construction, repair, and maintenance of streets, roadways, bridges, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, storm drainage systems, and rights-of-way.
  • Conduct daily pre-use inspection of heavy equipment.
  • Prepare and load necessary materials for heavy equipment operation.
  • Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment.
  • Perform daily post-use maintenance and inspection of heavy equipment.
  • Ensure work site safety and traffic control by setting up work site within rules/regulations/SOP's, and appropriate usage of equipment.
  • Assist crews with manual labor, respond to after hour calls and during emergency situations, and perform minor repairs and maintenance on various equipment and vehicles.
  • Lead the crew in performing all assigned duties including manual labor and heavy equipment operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
